MICHAEL CORMICK
began his career in Melbourne after winning the grand final of
television'sNew Faces. He went on to perform regularly on
television shows including The Don Lane Show, The Midday Show,
The Logie Awards and The AFI Awards. After playing Munkustrap
in the Australian production of Cats, Michael moved to London
where he studied at the Actors' Centre and the London College
of Music. He performed the role of Raoul in the West End
production of The Phantom of the Opera and his other West End
theatre credits during this period include playing the
Rockstar in Time, Kennedy in King and Edgar in Wuthering
Heights. Michael also appeared in the Royal Command
Performances of Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera at
the London Palladium and in cabaret at the Ritz and Savoy
Hotels in London.
In 1992 Michael
returned to Australia and performed lead roles including
Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat;
Whizzer in STC's production of Falsettos; Kenickie in Grease;
guest artist in Tivoli and concert versions of Mack and Mabel;
Rags; Dear World and Into the Woods. During this period, he
also performed his own cabaret show Michael Cormick Sings
Bacharach, which received rave reviews.
Michael is best
known in Australia for his portrayal of the Beast in Beauty
and the Beast. He played the role for over two years and
received a Mo Award for his performance.
He has also
appeared at many signature events, including the AFL Grand
Final and the official opening of Stadium Australia. Regular
television appearances include Good Morning Australia; Denise and Carols by Candlelight.
In 2002, Michael
returned to Europe to perform the role of the Arbiter in Chess and appeared in the new musical Romeo and Juliet in London.
More recently he performed the lead role of Wild Bill Hikcock
in Calamity Jane on the West End, and the role of Che in
concert performances of Evita in Beirut.
In 2004
Michael performed the lead role of Joe Gillis opposite Judi
Connelli in the concert version of Sunset Boulevard in Sydney but had to cancel his opportunity to repeat the season in Melbourne in 2005 as he has joined the leading cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber's most recent West End hit The Woman in White. |
