Drew Forsythe has
acted in over 70 major stage productions. They range from Mercutio in
Romeo and Juliet
to Mortimer in Arsenic and Old
Lace; from Mozart in
Amadeus to
both twins in The Venetian
Twins; from the King in
Big River to
Tesman in Hedda
Gabler; from Greek tragedy to Italian comedy,
from French farce to Russian drama. He has been
in successful seasons of Australian plays on the West End of London and
performed in cabaret, which he co-wrote, at the Edinburgh Festival and the
Hackney Empire. On TV he has served his time in
soapies such as Sons and Daughters, Cop Shop, A
Country Practice and
The Flying
Doctors. He has co-written and performed
sketches for The Investigators
and The Dingo
Principle. He was Ralph the moonling in
The Miraculous
Mellops, played Julie's husband in
G.P. won a Penquin Award for best actor in the
mini-series Whose Baby
and co-wrote and starred in the ABC series
Three Men and a Baby
Grand. In
1973, while at the same time as performing in the
The Threepenny Opera
and Richard
II, the opening productions of the Sydney
Opera House, he appeared in his first film. This was
Stone, a bikie
movie which has since attained the status of a cult film. He won an AFI award
for best supporting actor in
Caddie, was
nominated for best actor in Annie's Coming Out and among other films, was in
Newsfront, Ginger Meggs, Around The World With
Dot, Burke and Wills, Travelling North and
Billy's
Holiday. In
1995 he co-wrote and performed in a series of concerts with the Sydney Symphony
Orchestra, titled Three Men and an
Orchestra. He
received the 1996 Green Room Award for Best Actor in a musical for his
portrayal of Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner, in Simon Gallaher's production
of The
Mikado. He
played the Major General in Essgee's New Zealand tour of
The Pirates of Penzance
and continued his association with the company with a wonderful performance as
Sir Joseph Porter in HMS Pinafore
during 1997. Drew played the comic role of Njegus in Essgee's production of
The Merry Widow
in 1998 and was reunited with all the Pirates
crew in 1999 when playing in Essgee's A Funny
Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. Drew
is currently working on new projects.
